Hello, Yun Nie,
Don't give up on us so soon! We need your company!
I have been enjoying internet ever since I signed up for it. It is
not as difficult as it may seem to set up Chinese environment.
Here is how I do it:
Microsoft Chinese Windows 3.1 as the platform
Pegasus 2.1 as the e-mail system. You can download it via FTP from
risc.ua.edu in /pub/network/pegasus, or ftp.let.rug.nl in
/pub/pmail. I got it from my internet service provider Enter.net
Just install Pegasus from Chinese Windows. In order to send mail
with Chinese characters in it, you need to turn the MIME encoding
switch on. Since it runs on top of Chinese Windows, it automatically
displays Chinese characters as they should appear. So far I have not
encountered any compatibility problem.
I was told that you might need a Chinese version of PINE to be able
to read Chinese characters. And it might be available from NTCU ftp.
I tried once to log on NTCU ftp. The problem was that I don't know
which file to download. Maybe someone from NTCU would know it.
Best Regards,
Shawn
