摘 要

Dc Langmuir probe was first installed in V-2 rocket captured
by US army in 1945. Since then many sounding rockets and
satellites accommodated Langmuir probe to measure electron temperature (Te),
which is one of the basic parameters to understand
thermosphere/ionosphere. However several basic problems still remains unsolved.
This paper reviews the measurements obtained
with Japanese sounding rocket and satellite together with laboratory experiments.

     Three main topics here are
1. Problems associated with Langmuir probe,
2.Sounding rocket experiments, and
3. Measurements with scientific satellite.
Topic 1 stresses the serious problem associated with the electrode contamination,
which even now many scientists do not realize.
Topic 2 discusses on the problem “Te which is higher than Tn (neutral temperature)
around the height of 100 km” which has not been solved in spite of the long history
of sounding rocket experiments. Sharp layer of elevated Te which appears at
11 plus minus 20 minutes LT,
only in winter near Sq focus (Sq focus anomaly) will be reported.
Topics 3 reports the satellite measurement accomplished up to the height of 8000km.

In the last part of my talk, I will mention very shortly the possibility
to use Te measurement to study the precursor effect of the
earthquake on the ionosphere.
