Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche

– Teaching on the Phagma Nyingtik practice:

“Standing before Amita Buddha, the Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara vowed to
help all sentient beings in the three worlds, especially those in the
realm of desire. In order to achieve this goal, the bodhisattva can take
various nirmanakaya forms. For example, he may appear as a guru, yidam,
dakini, Dharma protector, or even a king or queen. Whatever the outer
form, the inner resolve is the same: to lead all sentient beings to
Buddhahood.

Many major sutras stem from this vow or are direct teachings given by
the bodhisattva himself, such as The Heart Sutra. Avalokitesvara
manifests to help sentient beings at any time and in any place. Even his
tears are beneficial, and the twenty-one forms of Tara were in fact born
from a single droplet.

In the spirit of Avalokitesvara, these forms of Tara unfailingly respond
to the needs of sentient beings. Among them, White Tara is considered
especially effective during this degenerate time, when the life span of
sentient beings is short.

Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo discovered the very profound Deathless Arya Tara
teaching. Not only is this teaching recognized as a treasure by the
Nyingma and Kagyu schools, but even accepted by the more finical Sakya-
pas!

Individuals who practice this teaching will definitely receive Tara’s
blessings and wisdom. Done as a group practice, the effect is even more
powerful. As Guru Rinpoche said: “It may be difficult for an individual
to lift a boulder, but as a group effort, it can be achieved with ease.”

Anyone who feels a connection with this teaching may attend the puja.
Participants who attend for even a short time or who later reflect on
Tara are guaranteed to attain Buddhahood in the future. Furthermore,
contributing to the puja by cleaning the puja area, or donating flowers,
incense, lamps, or any other kind of offering will establish a
connection with this teaching and plants seeds of good merit.”

Further information:

This drupcho** will be conducted by Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Khenpo
Sonam Tashi and ten lamas from Bhutan. All these lamas are graduates of
the nine-year Buddhist studies programme at Rinpoche’s Buddhist college
in East Bhutan.

The Phagma Nyingtik practice particularly emphasises cultivation of
wisdom and longevity, and it was a main practice of H.H. Dilgo Khyentse
Rinpoche.

 * Any contributions towards the cost of holding this puja (which
includes renting a venue in a central location and inviting eleven monks
from Bhutan) are most welcome. Funds received over the costs will be
offered to Dzongsar Institute.

** A drupcho is an eight-day puja that is conducted from morning until
evening.
